Food Scene

Featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, this is a great place for lunch. Service is a bit slow at times, but it can be worth the wait. They do sandwiches and sausages to order, or pick up lunch meat to take home and whip up your own sandwiches (the pepper turkey is especially awesome).

This restaurant is the “to go” version of Portland’s famous Northern Thai cuisine restaurant Pok Pok, founded by acclaimed chef Andy Ricker. Be sure to order “Ike’s Fish Sauce Wings” here as they are incredible and a must-try item for travelers to Portland. The wings are big, so you can split a full order (6 wings) between two people. If you're still hungry, try one of the little steam bun sandwiches. The tofu one is my personal favorite.

They make an incredible Taiwanese beef shank noodle soup here. I highly suggest ordering this and asking for the bottle of chili oil to heat things up if you like it spicy. They make it in-house and they'll give you a bottle for the table, but be careful not to use too much! Perfect spot for a cold or rainy day. Not a lot of tables, and it's small, but that keeps it from getting too crowded. Also, pro tip: sometimes these do these chocolate cupcakes on the dessert menu. They are very rich, but extremely good if you want to finish on a sweet note.

Essentials

The closest grocery store to my home is the QFC down in the Moreland neighborhood. It’s a short drive down Milwaukie Ave and should have everything you need.

The best grocery store in Portland, in my opinion. They always seem to have the best produce of any grocery store I frequent, and their meat counter is far and away the best in the city. All of their meat is from Oregon and always top quality. Great place to load up on organic or simply more high quality foods if you don't mind paying a little extra.

Parks & Nature

Really close to the house and a great place to go for a run or a short walk/hike. Feels like a hidden forest just off of Milwaukie Ave. It can get crowded on nice days or on the weekends, but it's usually not too packed. Drinks & Nightlife

A small, but homey feeling dive bar. It's ok for watching sports, but the TVs aren't really that great. The charm in this places lies in the neighborhood / local vibe you will get and how close it is to the house. Great for hanging out or meeting folks. Also, they have a really good whiskey selection and you can even join their Whiskey club and get a Whiskey passport to track which ones you've tried!
