One of the most famous places to taste the traditional "poncha"even though it is not my favourite.
Nowadays there are already many places making good ponchas but I would recommend : Poncha Rancho do Vale (a pink building at the roundabout before the tunnel to São Vicente). The owner makes the poncha on that moment and it may take time, but the taste is worth it. My favourite there and the original one is just made of lemon.

If you visit this place take the opportunity to have lunch or dinner at "O Farolim" or, depending on the time of day, you can also visit the headlight and drink a fresh herbal tea with homemade cake in "Casa de Chá O Fio".

There is a cable car that takes you down and you can enjoy a really beautiful walking there. It's better you take some water with you because there is no business there, I mean there is a bar before you get the cable car but sometimes it is closed so you can’t trust. And even when is open I don't recommend.

In my opinion it is more beautiful than "Jardim Botânico"
You can stop the car in “Almirante Reis Park” at the old town, then pick up the teleferic to “Monte” (takes about 15min) the first starts at 9:00am and it costs 16€ round trip for each person. The ticket for “Monte Palace Tropical Garden” costs 12.50€ per person.
You could also buy just one way to Monte by teleferic and then try our famous toboggan ride from Monte to Funchal. We never tried but it seems an adventure:)
