Amazing for brunch, great for kids but also couples as it's got a farm (with animals!) and veggie garden tucked away in Hackney! The restaurant is called Frizzante and is one of our favourites in London.

If you're up for some good fish and a very traditional East London spot. This place has been there for over 40 years, may not look great from the outside but the quality of the food makes up for it!

The Prospect of Whitby is a historic public house on the banks of the Thames at Wapping , which is a lovely bike ride from our home. It lays claim to being the site of the oldest riverside tavern, dating from around 1520, and has lots of interesting facts and photos inside. A must visit on a nice day out, and perfect to start a walk along the river.

"Whether people are old or young, locals or visitors, music legends, builders, yummy mummies or market traders, Cafe East sees them all. But how do Has and Cakan hit the sweet spot between East End nostalgia and avocado on toast? How do they balance caff with coffee bar?" Great for a coffee or brunch but be prepared to queue up!

Lovely street full of independent boutiques and cafes. Also has one of London's oldest markets in the East End. From Time Out: Stilettos, woks, massive packs of batteries… whatever you need, go forth and seek out a bargain at Roman Road Market, which runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. A few street-food sellers have recently set up stall here too.

Drinks & Nightlife

One of our favourite spots - amazing views of the whole of London, surrounded by a jugle at the 40th (ish) floor of a skyscraper. Cocktails are great too but pricey, good thing is that you don't have to consume but can go only for the view. There are also 3 restaurants. Make sure you book in advance if going before 6pm everyday, and don't wear white shoes/trainers as they won't let you in!

Very much off the beaten track, one of our favourite 'secret' spots nearby. Come here to taste some great gin or vodka brewed in house in there distillery, and can accompany with some tasty pizza. They organise tours and tastings as well if you're into that.

Lovely New Orleans themed bar with live bands playing almost everyday. It has also a roof terrance for a drink in the sun in summer. Closed on Monday and Tuesday. Correct address is 107 Roman Road, not sure on this it comes up as Rivington Street!

The closest park to our flat and one of our favourites (at least where we spend most of the time!). There's a lovely lake where you can rent boats on a sunny day, and every Sunday there's a farmers' markets where you can source fresh fruits and veggies, or eat there from one of the many stalls.

The best modern art exhibitions will come through these doors, as should you if you're in London. Amazing as part of a walk by the river Thames, then cross the Millenium Bridge to see St Paul's Cathedral.
