Close to town with spectacular views. Friendly dogs roam the property and their are horses as well. The tasting room is lovely and has a large covered porch. Plenty of seating. The Rose is delicious.

Parks & Nature

Close to town and lovely hike. The trail that goes up the road out of the parking lot crosses the upper Moormans river, which is swimmable and ends at a waterfall. Watch out for copperheads!

Food Scene

Great place for coffee and brunch. Peaceful back patio that is very dog friendly. It is off the beaten path so you can usually get a table on weekend mornings with no wait without a reservation.

The motto is "too small, too crowded and too noisy" but the food is plentiful, delicious, affordable and fun. The red hot blue nachos are unique and feel less decadent than the regular nachos-which are my favorite. Not having a sign is part of their charm... Next door to Parallel 38 look for a neon green sign in the window that says in cursive "Get in here" Best to go when UVA is not in session. There is a parking lot around back...no patio so not a good place for dining with pups.

Local gem on the downtown mall. Nice seating options outside and inside. Excellent housemade beer list from the same geniuses behind Champion Brewery. The scallops are divine.

Italian perfection. The margarita pizza is legendary. No reservations so the wait can be an hour on Friday and Saturday nights. While you wait you can peruse the Bridge Art Gallery next door and sample some Potters Cider in the art gallery tasting room. Not feeling art and cider, venture across Avon street to Champion brewery for a beer and shuffleboard or wander down Graves street to explore the Belmont neighborhood while you wait. The covered patio is open during good weather and is dog friendly!

Feast! anchors the Main Street market indoor farmers market. A bustling cafe and bespoke grocery, salads, dips, crackers, meats, a wondrous cheese selection with friendly and knowledgeable cheese mongers, wine, beer, local produce and lots of samples! Everything you need to put together a picnic or order lunch at the counter and dine on their patio. At the time of writing, well-behaved dogs are allowed into the market and on the patio. The prices are predictably high. You will also find a coffee cart, a spice shop, a fancy pet food store, a fish shop, an Italian restaurant and a lovely florist in the same market space. Feast! is sadly closed on Sundays.

Beer Run is a local favorite. Easy parking, causal, consistently good food, and a phenomenal beer and wine selection keep it bustling but there is almost never a wait for a table. The menu is creative with surprisingly gourmet and healthy options for a brew pub. There is covered & heated patio open year round where you can dine with your dog. Often a few dogs are in residence so if your pup is interested in other dogs it might be a distracting meal. On sunny days, picnic tables and cafe tables in the grass provide a more spacious dog friendly seating option. Possibly the best nachos in town.
