This is a 'must' when visiting Brecon as the Gurkha's have played and continue to play such a central role in the culture and history of Brecon. The food is delicious and the service is very friendly. It's best to book at weekends as it's a very small restaurant.

The Felin Fach Griffin has long held the reputation of being one of the best hotel/gastro pubs in Wales and justly so. The food is second to none, with a big emphasis on local and seasonal produce being high on the agenda. They source a great deal of veg from their own garden and their menu is inventive and diverse. A must!

If you come to Brecon without absorbing the majestic sight of the Beacons then you must be mad! The best way to navigate your way through the Beacons is by purchasing an OS map. This will highlight all public footpaths and bridleways and will help to keep you safe should you get lost. Please contact me for any more info as I know the mountain routes pretty well.

If the Beacons are a little too intimidating for you or if a sedate stroll is more your thing then Charles really is the perfect cottage for you as the wonderfully scenic Brecon-Monmouth canal runs along the bottom of Charles Street and access to it is a mere 2 minute walk away! Brecon to Talybont is a lovely route and there's a good pub lunch at the end too.

Llandeilo is around a 40 minute drive from Brecon. The lovely country drive will take you into Carmarthenshire and Wales proper. You'll hear Welsh spoken on the streets of Llandeilo (which is very rare in Brecon) and the town feels very Welsh so it's a great place to absorb the culture. There are lots of very lovely independent shops and a fantastic deli and butchers. The nearby National Trust property of Dinefwr is well worth a visit too.
