The Blackberry Cafe is situated on the corner of the main street in Thomastown and provides a traditional atmosphere complete with fresh, home-made baking and principally organic and locally sourced ingredients and produce. Originally an old shoemaker’s shop, it has been lovingly and extensively restored, retaining the eighteenth century frontage, with its characteristic large Georgian-paneled windows now painted a fresh tea green, and adorned with a magnificent sculptural blackberry.

We are very lucky here at Childwall Cottage to be on the cusp of three historic and beautiful counties in the South East; Waterford, Kilkenny & Wexford. Here are just a few of our must see local sights!
Enjoy The World’s Oldest operating Lighthouse and learn the tales of those who spent their lives watching over the safety of those at sea. Guided tours of the 800 year old tower will cost around €10 and run all year round daily. You can also enjoy the cafe, gift shop and gardens it sits on. Today, the island is dominated by the 200 year old Fort Mitchel, the star shaped Fortress which became a prison holding over 2300 prisoners. Take the scenic ferry ride from Kennedy Pier, Cobh, and enjoy a fully guided tour of the island and fortress, and relax in their cafe and picnic areas. (1 hour 45 minutes by car)
