Laaksum is called the smallest fishing village in Europe. The village has a few fishermen's houses, a farm and a harbor that is listed as a cultural-historical monument.

We usually purchase bread at this location, and it's enjoyable to cycle there because the route passes through some lovely farms. To get there, cross the bridge and follow the canal until you reach the marina. From there, a bike path leads to Koudum, which is about 6.1 kilometers away and takes approximately 19 minutes. Alternatively, you can take the regular roads by car, which takes only 10 minutes (in this case, follow the main street instead of continuing along the canal from the bridge).

Located just a few kilometers from our holiday house, this historic site offers breathtaking views of the Ijsselmeer. It's the perfect destination for a bike ride, and we recommend stopping at Laaksum on the way to enjoy some delicious fish.
On 26 September 1345, the Battle of Warns (Frisian: Slach by Warns, Dutch: Slag bij Warns) was fought between Count William IV of Holland and the Frisians during the Frisian-Hollandic War. The annual commemoration of the battle holds great significance for many nationalist Frisians. The Frisians emerged victorious, successfully repelling the Dutch from the eastern coast of the Zuiderzee.

We absolutely adore visiting this place - whether it's to walk our dog, take our kids to the playground, or simply enjoy the scent of the forest. It's a stunning location that's equally beautiful in every season. If you cross the forest, you'll eventually arrive at Mirns, where you can take in an impressive view of the IJsselmeer.

It's a breathtaking route that spans approximately 100km by car or 40km by bike, winding through fields of vibrant tulips. If you're departing from our house, the drive to the start of the route is 31km.

Located in the heart of Workum, the Fresh Market De 3 Ambachten is a wonderful destination that features a butcher, baker, and organic cheesemaker. It's only 13.5km from our house, and we highly recommend a visit if you're looking to purchase fresh meat, bread, cheese, and wine.

It's a small scale amusement park for kids from 2 to 8 years old. You can make a 80 minutes boat trip with the ferry from Stavoren to Enkhuizen, they used to have a special combo ticket including the ferry, taxi and entrance to the park (if this information is not available in their website you can write an email for them). The ferry season for 2022 starts on 23t April and goes until 2 October. The Sprookjeswonderland opens on 9 April.

Before coming back we always go for a walk on the city, eat something and enjoy the trip back to our house.

3,5 Km from our house you can find very tiny sand beaches along the dike, the locals here call them "private beaches". There address here is from the parking area closer to the dike. Note: to access the beaches here it's necessary to jump the fence in the points where there is a step proper for it.

At only 7.6km from our house, this charming village is an absolute must-visit destination! It's full of delightful restaurants, unique shops, art galleries, and beautiful beaches. If possible, we highly recommend arriving by boat to fully appreciate the stunning scenery along the way. We absolutely love it there!
This lovely, old village is located just 4km from our house and is well worth a visit for a refreshing coffee or beer on a terrace, a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants, or a trip to our favorite family beach. I especially enjoy watching the sunset from this spot.
