Walking Distance

You are soooo close to restaurants and coffee shops on "the Ninth Street Corridor." Just turn left from our house, walk a block to Markham, turn right and walk 'till you come to 9th. Most of the restaurants are to your left. Also, as an easy choice and somewhat less expensive than a restaurant is the Whole Foods buffet (or groceries, you do have fridge/cupboard use). To get to Whole foods, just follow the above directions but don't turn right on Markham. Instead, cross the street and walk into Duke's East Campus "The Wall" and turn right onto the graveled walking path. Follow "the Wall" until you see Whole Foods. To your left as you look at Whole Foods is The Mad Hatter (at Main Street), a coffee shop which is about the same in cost, but has a lovely atmosphere. Or walk to Ninth Street! Also, just past the Mad Hatter you can catch the free city bus, the Bull City Connector (BCC), which takes you on a loop around a bit of the town so you can see some of what's where. You can take the BCC downtown and pop on and off at various restaurants and shops as you like. To catch the BCC, just walk past Mad Hatter to Main Street and look for a BCC bus stop. Go either way, it's a loop. To only go downtown, cross the street to the other stop. There is BCC brochure in your room and well as other fun stuff to do here.

The buffet here is awesome. You can eat in or out on the narrow, tabled walkway. Easy and less expensive than most of the restaurants around.
