There are various places you can access the River Dee but the best place is probably the "Groves" by the wier, there are two pubs down there and coffee places and public tiolets along with a bandstand and the "Recorder steps" that take you up to the Saxon/Norman walls and to either the Castle or to the Eastgate clock via the "Wishing steps", a MUST visit in Chester.

This is a must place to visit - if you like York then Chester is for you but on a smaller scale. The walk around the walls is brilliant, with so much to see and learn. Takes about an hour to walk them all but give yourself at least 2-3 hours as there is so much to see ...... and of course its all free.
