Small, local place. The BEST burgers in WNC!!! And - try the fried brussel sprout appetizer. YUM. Friendly service. Dine inside and there's a small back deck. Guests still agree the burgers are truly the BEST!

A goldmine of wine. Staff is knowledgeable about wine and pairing it with food. Try the grilled, pimento cheese sandwich and the smoked trout dip is to die for. Wine tasting every Friday ...... that's now virtual. GREAT place to get a sandwich to go. Under $10 which is a deal in this area. Behind her shop is the Nature Park which is a perfect spot for a picnic.
Stephen likes the Rueben and I always get the roast beef.

Set on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Folk Art Center is two floors filled with hand crafted items made by members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Be sure to look at the quilts hanging on the walls as you walk up the ramp to the second floor where there is an ever changing exhibit. Often members will be demonstrating broom making, weaving or something else right as you walk in the door. FREE

In the winter the rocking chairs are lined up in front of them and they go like hotcakes. Walk the halls and check out the Arts & Crafts furniture, etc. displayed throughout the hotel. It's the largest public display in America. Ride up the elevator in the chimney. It's one of a kind. Several log cabins that belonged to the family of Zebulon Vance the Governor of NC during the Civil War and a museum with a short film tell you about the varied career of this influential orator. He also was the lawyer for the doomed Tom Dula made famous by the Kingston Trio in the song Tom Dooley. Check their website for reenactments throughout the year and for the Christmas candlelight event. It's just minutes from our house.
