Shrine of Remembrance is a war memorial in Melbourne and has free museum. Not very well know among people but the view of the city from this spot is the best you can get.

Personal favourite - located nowhere in the middle of Yarra river and under a bridge.
And yes the view of the city from this place will have you in awe. During sunset you'll have to beat the crowd to get in the pub as the Melbourne skyline just looks magnificent from this place.
