The location was only 1 mile north of the mining town, Jerome, but they became their own mining camp called “Haynes”. In 1901, the population was 30! They even had their own post office from 1908 – 1922.
Or course, the gold ran out and the mine was closed. Years later, 91 years later to be exact, the area was rediscovered by Terry & Don Robertson. The year was 1981 and Dons’ dream was to share with the world some of the most unique and important icons of the industrial revolution.
Today, the property is filled with vintage transportation: over 180 cars, trucks & motorcycles, including Studebaker’s and Harley’s. There is mining equipment, historic buildings and a Stamp Mill that was used for crushing the ore. You will also find a working sawmill and Blacksmith shop with gold panning and a petting zoo for the kids!

Come for the fish education - stay for the bird watching! We spent two wonderful mornings walking along the clean trails (many of them shaded and cool) and along the creek bank. We went with the hope of seeing a bald eagle, which we didn't, and we left with hundreds of photographs of other birds and some wonderful memories. We had several nice chats with others along the way, yet it certainly was not a crowded area. Plenty of parking. Leashed dogs are permitted. The trails are flat, but the ground is not paved so I'm not sure if a wheelchair or stroller could be used. Truly outstanding public-private facility

Chateau Tumbleweed is a collaboration of four friends – two husband-and-wife teams – who, after working more than 30 combined years for other Arizona wineries, recently left their “day jobs” to focus on their own project. We have a great friendship, a penchant for absurdity and complementary skills in vineyard management, winemaking, sales and administration. We crafted our first wine – only three barrels – in 2011. After three vintages of making our wine at the Four-Eight Wineworks Winemaker’s Cooperative in Camp Verde (2012-2014), we took the plunge, purchased the building we’d been eying for the previous year and converted it into one of Clarkdale’s first commercial wineries and tasting rooms.
We’re serious about our wines, but don’t take ourselves too seriously. We aim to rub some of this spirit off onto those we encounter in the hope that wine will one day be generally less stuffy and a lot more fun. We believe in the high-elevation growing regions of the Southwest and think wine has something to teach us if we’re willing to listen. We’re grateful to be part of this evolving industry and to finally be free to do this our way.

Fossil Springs, Camp
We are 25 minutes from Fossil Springs.
Fossil Creek is a Wild and Scenic River in central Arizona on lands managed by the Coconino and Tonto national forests. The creek flows from its source at Fossil Springs 14 miles to its confluence with the Verde River downstream of the historic and decommissioned Childs power plant. Fossil Creek is one of only two Wild and Scenic rivers in Arizona. At temperatures of 70 degrees Fahrenheit, water gushes out at 20,000 gallons per minute from springs at the bottom of a 1,600 foot deep canyon.
