This Mexican restaurant has the best guacamole I've ever tasted. It's made to order so you can choose your spiciness. The tacos are great, the salads are refreshing (try the avocado & hearts of palm) and the margaritas are strong!

This place is famous, not for its food, but for its light show. It's a cramped space with the craziest compilation of string lights that dangle in your face. You can get a cheap meal accompanied by flashing chili pepper lights.

A nice mixture of all things latin. For around $20 you can get a nice piece of seabass. There is also delicious ceviche and tons of tapas. This place gets pretty lively at night so try to go early and sit on the patio.

For 61 years, customers have crowded into Veselka, a cozy Ukrainian coffee shop in New York City's East Village, to enjoy pierogi, borscht, goulash, and many other unpretentious favorites. Veselka (rainbow in Ukrainian) has grown up from a simple newsstand serving soup and sandwiches into a twenty-four hour gathering place without ever leaving its original location on the corner of East Ninth Street and Second Avenue. Veselka is, quite simply, an institution.

Out of all the community gardens in the East Village, this is my favorite. It's coiffed and pruned and boasts and adorable little treehouse with a lounge and plenty of reading material. The latest addition: a big bullfrog in the fish pond.

Key Food is open 24 hours and is larger than the smaller grocers close to the apartment. I tend to walk the extra blocks to Key Food because they have a large deli counter, better prices, a wider selection, and self check-out.
