Jozefska 2, Bratislava: "Crazy/Weird John" restaurant, is an old very cheap restaurant located right next to presidential garden next to Presidential Palace (Grassalkovich palace). This place has cheap price with big portions of meals. Many locals go there to eat, menu is also in english. The name of the restaurant "John"/Janko/Jan is because in old times it was a meeting point of some very important people in our history, actually they even wrote there the Slovak National Athem. They prepare meals until 11.30pm what is very good to know because many other restaurants in Bratislava stop preparing meals already before 10pm.

Within 5 minutes walk from the apartment. This place is very popular for our guests, we always hear very good feedback. A microbrewery, opened on Drevena and Dunajska street. It continues the tradition of a well-known brewery from 1752. They brew their own unique beer, Bratislavsky leziak. They also offer wide range of central European dishes. Both locations are very close and make very good meals with e.g. beer. We definitely recommend as #1 the restaurant on Dunajska street, on the side of the street where is also My Tesco supermarket, you just have to continue walking until you see a silver statue on the left and the restaurant will be behind it probably 50 meters, entrance through a fence - gate like going to a garden courtyard.

Unfortunately they still do not have the menu in English, but the owner who is there almost all the time (from Vietnam) speaks English well and is happy to explain anything. All kind of dishes and have few choices also with mean and Pho soups which are very tasty! Locals love this bistro. good prices.

about 3 minutes walk from the apartment, a favorite everyday lunch menu place which locals use a lot. Low prices, you can choose from meals which they show you, sometimes the queue of people is longer but it goes pretty fast. Locals call it as a place with home made meals, reminds them times from childhood and typical home made cuisine from their mother. Opened from about 11am to 5pm, it you show up late, they might have less options to choose from. descriptions are not in English but locals and people there will be glad to help you with your choice. This is the way how you can better know the culture and locals.
