Most people enjoy taking a day trip to Yellowstone by traveling the scenic route north from Driggs, visiting Mesa Falls/ Island Park before entering the park through West Yellowstone Montana, Yellowstone's western gate into the park. Once inside, take the Firehole Loop and maybe enjoy a swim in the freshest mountain water in the lower 48 before venturing into the Geyser Basins/ Old Faithful / the scenic route Yellowstone Lake then returning via Grand Teton National Park to the south. West Yellowstone is about 95 miles, or a 1.75 hrs drive from Driggs on this route. You can also choose to enter the park via the south entrance which is about 1.5 hrs away, but you'll find that once in Yellowstone, this route does not offer the views that the west entry provides, we prefer to start West and end to the South. In the winter you can take a snow coach from West Yellowstone into the park to view wildlife and geyser's from the warmth and comfort of a snow coach. Please note that services are limited in the winter. Please visit www.nps.org for full details. Take note that there are restrictions for pets, and remember that the wildlife you see is indeed wild and potentially dangerous. Please read and abide by the instructions provided to you by the NPS upon entry.

Sightseeing

Temporarily closed due to recent wind storms. Teton Valley enjoys old fashioned ways of life, one of the best examples of this was our Drive-In Theatre, known locally as "The Spud". You normally can't miss it as you drive along the main corridor, about 2 miles south of Driggs on Highway 33. However, all you’ll see for now is the old spud truck that sits in front of where the screen was before getting blown down this spring. Watch for the rebuilding and reopening of this 70 yr icon

Not familiar with driving on snow and ice?

Don't use the Cruise Control on slick and snowy roads Don't tailgate or wait to the last moment to brake. In fact, try to avoid any sudden or sharp moves. Heed warning signs on Teton Pass, if you don't have AWD/FWD and good snow tires, you'll need chains. Enjoy!
Que faut-il apporter ?

Sunscreen and a Water Bottle

Sunscreen is a good idea all seasons of the year here in Teton Valley, even in winter. Skiing at altitudes near 10,000', the sun's reflection off the snow and thin atmosphere increases the risk of sunburn. You'll thank us later..... You'll also want to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, you are after all in high country desert. Keeping hydrated will not only help with the dryness, but also help you avoid any low lying headaches that can occur while you adjust to the higher altitude here.

Please heed the Speed Limits

Local speed limits have all residents of Teton Valley at heart, especially the 4-legged variety. We moved into their habitat, and it is up to us humans to protect them as much as possible. They are after all, a big part of the draw to this region of the USA. Also keep in mind that most large game are most active from dusk to dawn, turn on headlights early and look for the reflection from their eyes. Get the kids involved to see who's the best spotter! Leave the city behind, open your windows and take in the beauty around you. The body shop may not thank you, but our furry friends will.
Se déplacer dans les environs

Enjoy going slow to take in the scenery?

There's nothing wrong with that. Just keep in mind that Idaho & Wyoming driving law states that if you’re going under the posted speed limit and have 3 or more cars stacked up behind you, you will need to pull over (were it's safe) to let them go by.

Air Conditioning in the mountains

Air conditioned homes are rare in E Idaho. Low humidity combined with overnight temperatures that often fall below 50 degrees in summer, and daytime temps rarely out of the 80's , it simply isn't needed. Opening up all your windows once the sun sets and shutting them and closing blinds in the morning is the secret to summertime comfort. During the day, Locals tend to migrate to the outdoors, on their decks, patios, balconies and yards to enjoy time together playing games, eating and/or to enjoy fine conversation with each other.
