Food scene

With its quirky art scene – think more vintage finds than hipster – and plethora of restaurants that are dotted around the Royal Harbour, Ramsgate is a treasure trove of local culture that is steeped in history. Considered by the locals as being Margate’s quieter sibling, the town’s postcard-perfect marina is a hub of activity. One of the most anticipated events in Ramsgate is the annual Ramsgate Week, when bunting is displayed and the town’s character comes alive. At the epicentre of this regatta is a competitive sailing programme that provides top-quality racing as well as an extraordinary spectacle for those on shore. Away from the nautical vibes, the town also welcomes the Festival of Sound, which in a nutshell celebrates the incredible history, landscapes, architecture and people of Ramsgate. This year’s festival presents 'Stories From The Sea' – celebrating the 200th anniversary of Ramsgate's Royal Harbour.

The Ramsgate Tunnels are a network of subterranean tunnels that were used to shelter 60,000 people during WWII air raids. For the simple life, we recommended a stroll west towards the unedited coastline of Pegwell Bay.
