Augustus Pugin - best known for designing most of the Houses of Parliament - radically reformed cityscapes around the world. Pugin built this church as his model of construction, and called it "my own child". Out of all the buildings he built, this was his favourite. St Augustine of Canterbury landed very close by in 597, bringing Christianity back to England. Although is original shrine was destroyed in 1538, St Augustine's is his modern shrine, and contains one of his last remaining relics.

The Sailors Church was built in the mid 19th century to minister to the the men and boys who fished out of Ramsgate, and to provide accommodation for the fishing apprentices (also known as Smack Boys) and emergency space for shipwrecked sailors. The church itself is essentially rectangular and occupies the ground floor of the three-floor building. The rooms above, and the building next door, originally served as living quarters. The interior of the church is quite plain.

Situated in the Clock House on the quayside at Ramsgate Harbour, Ramsgate Maritime Museum focuses strongly on Ramsgate and its immediate environs, with a brief introduction to the rest of the region's maritime past. Set in the heart of the country's only Royal Harbour, the Museum building is an exhibit in its own right, being the product of some of the most eminent civil engineers and architects of the early 19th century. The Clock House is also the site of the unique Ramsgate Meridian - from which our own particular Mean Time - 5 mins 41 secs ahead of Greenwich- was calculated! There are four galleries of exhibits telling the maritime history of the area with permanent displays on the development of the Harbour, Navigation, Fishing, Lifeboats and Shipwrecks

The only ‘Royal Harbour’ in the country. 2021 marks 200 years since this title was bestowed by King George IV for the friendly welcome he received, something still enjoyed by visitors today. Enjoy sandy bays alongside a working marina. Enjoy restaurants, cafés and bars along the Royal Harbour.

The park itself is lovely and the Glasshouse Restrauant a nice place to stop for Tea and Cake (although there is another nice Cafe on the other side also). Behind the glasshouse is a woodland area with many green paroquets.

Beaches

Past Ramsgate Harbour, on the way to Pegwell Bay is the Western Undercliff Beach. Much quieter and more sheltered than the main Ramsgate sands and free parking along the beach (note: dogs are allowed on these beaches - unlike Main Sands).
