Long distance walking route

One of the best known and most accessible long distance walking routes in the UK. The full route runs from Winchester in the west to Eastbourne. In total some 100 miles long. Most walkers tackle it over 7-9 days. Our Airbnb is conveniently situated a days walk from Winchester, where many walkers start. Going east the next stopover is typically Buriton, which is close to Petersfield. As Winchester & Petersfield both have main line railway stations many visitors do these to sections of the route over a weekend.

Very good food. Booking usually essential. Large indoor & outdoor seating areas. About 4 miles walk (or a short drive!) There is an easy safe & flat route along the northerly Meon Valley Trail. There is also a very bike friendly cafe behind the village shop also in West Meon (“Cuppacheeno”)

Introduction

Corhampton is a beautiful village on the river Meon meandering to the Solent, in the South Downs, a paradise for walkers & cyclists. It’s an ideal stopover for long distance paths including the South Downs Way, Wayfarers Walk & Monarch’s Way. The cities of Winchester, Portsmouth & Southampton are a short drive. We’ve 2 nice pubs within a 10 minute walk, which do takeaways. We’ve lived here since 1997 & happily advise on making the most of your break. Public transport options are limited, there are local taxi companies: Gamblin Cars & Hambledon Cars (& Uber!) M & R Thwaites, June 2021

Local Shops

We have a good shop in the village, 5 minutes walk away. See meonstokepostofficeandvillagestores.co.uk . Sells local products, open from 6 am (7 am on Sundays), so very handy for South Downs Walkers needing to resupply for the their next leg….Nearest supermarkets are a Sainsbury’s Local in Bishops Waltham, a short drive away. There are also Co-ops in BW & Wickham. Both BW & Wickham have a wide range of cafes/restaurants & small shops.
