Wonderful little convenience store that is the closest store to our cabin. They carry all sorts of basics, and also many "only-in-Vermont" treats, including Wilcox ice cream and hand-made frozen pizzas. They also have a large sandwich menu for lunches.

Pikes Falls in the Green Mountain Forest. You'll need to drive about an hour to get there, but then it's a short walk to a great swimming hole.

A beautiful lake for swimming or just sunbathing. There are also hiking trails. It's just about 10-15 minutes drive from Manchester. Take 7-A North and merge into 7 North. It's only a few miles down Route 7, on your left. You do hear the cars on the highway, so it's not entirely quiet, but the lake is wonderful to swim in and there are picnic tables and bathrooms where you can change.

Emerald Lake State Park

Mass MoCA, the fabulous interactive museum of modern art is in Massachusetts, but is only about one hour away from our cabin. It is well worth the drive to spend a day in this fascinating place!

Great breakfast/lunch place (they now have breakfast all day!). Lots of good veggie options. It's often crowded, but worth the wait!

If you are looking for some hot and tasty pizza, pasta or burgers or have a hankering for garlic knots, Ramunto's is the place for you! They also carry salads and gluten-free pizza as well as other tasty appetizers and lots of beer on tap. Ramunto's opened in Arlington in summer of 2022 and it's a hit with locals and visitors alike. It's a short drive from the cabin into Arlington (turn left on Route 7A, heading toward Manchester and it's less than a mile down the road on your left, next to the Sugar Shack).

The Battenkill
The Battenkill is a beautiful river that starts in Vermont and flows to New York, converging with the Hudson in Greenwich, NY. Fly fishing on the Battenkill is legendary. Also, there are numerous companies (the closest in Arlington, about 10-15 minutes from the cabin) offering canoeing, tubing, and kayaking trips along the river. And, just at the bottom of Wilcox Hollow Road is the Green River, which also has some good fishing.

Wilcox Ice Cream!
The eponymous Wilcox family moved from Sandgate to Manchester Center in 1892 and began making its famous ice cream in 1928. You can find Wilcox ice cream at many local stores, including the Wayside Country Store in Arlington, and in the summer, at local ice cream stands (there's one on the way to Manchester). It's delicious, so don't miss it!
