Waianapanapa State Park which has a spectacular black sand beach and caves to explore. The views are breathtaking, there are grounds to picnic or BBQ and an excellent location to capture an epic family photo. No lifeguard on duty.

Kōkī Beach has a mixture of dark red and white sand which has been produced by the nearby cinder cone hill of Ka Iwi O Pele (meaning “bones of Pele”). Koki does have Huli Huli Chicken plate lunch for sale on most days and a picnic area as well as a charcoal grill available for beachgoers. There is no lifeguard on duty, it is always wise to check with locals on the water condition and obtain safety tips.

A must-do tour provides fascinating details into the extraordinary relationship between the ancient Hawaiians and their environment. This is perhaps the best opportunity in all of Hawaii to really understand what traditional Hawaiian culture was like prior to contact with the West.
Located within Hana Bay is Hana Beach Park, which has a long black-sand beach and is the safest swimming beach along the East Maui coast. The bay is protected by a coral reef and harbored from big swells by its curved shape. Local families like to gather here and picnic. The beach park has a grassy area with picnic tables. On the right side of the park is Hana Pier. Outrigger canoe racing is frequently practiced in Hana Bay. Epic place to SNORKEL on Maui's east side.

This area of the coast has been inhabited by native people for hundreds of years and remains an integral part of a thriving culture. Visitors to the Kīpahulu District are treated to views of waterfalls, sweeping ocean vistas, and Hawaiian cultural experiences. This park is famous for its Bamboo Forest Hike (Pīpīwai Trail) and the Seven Sacred Pools (Oheo Gulch).

Ensure your hands are free to help stabilize yourself, it is recommended that you wear proper shoes and have a backpack (or take nothing with you). Police, firefighters and our EMT’s here do not advise travelers embark on this hike. The beach is clothing optional.

Charles Lindbergh is famous for his non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean in 1927. He moved to Maui and settled in the remote area of Kipahulu, retiring in the 1970s and was buried in 1974. Many visit his graveside to pay their respects at the Palapala Ho'omau Church. The famous church was built in 1857 and still stands along Maui's lush coastline.

Many visit his graveside to pay their respects at the Palapala Ho'omau Church. The famous church was built in 1857 and still stands along Maui's lush coastline.
Just past the Keanae Arboretum along the Hana Highway, you'll find a road on the left past mile marker 16 down to the village of Keanae. Pay attention to the jagged, black lava rocks and note that there is no swimming here due to the dangerous and rocky shoreline. KeanaeA traditional Hawaiian village, Keanae is known for its taro fields, much like their ancestors. This area attracts fisherman and photographers from all over the world looking to catch Maui's famous North Shore waves against the beautiful Keanae peninsula.

Looking to your left over Honolulunui Bay, the coastal views are some of the very best on the entire road to Hana.
