Interesting things to do and see in Grand Cayman
Cayman's star attraction on the west side of George Town was named "The Caribbean's Best Beach" by Caribbean Travel and Life Magazine. Many lovely hotels, condos, bars and restaurants line the long, white sand beach with crystal clear waters that are generally warm year long. Several public beach access pathways (brown sign) along West Bay Road allow easy access to one of the most stunning beaches in the world. Be sure to take sun screen, water, a good book and prepare to relax and unwind! While you are in the area, take the chance to visit Camana Bay located in Seven Mile Beach Corridor just one block north of SMBeach on the highway that runs parallel to the West Bay Road. You'll find lovely stores, cafes, restaurants, bars, gelato & ice-cream shops, movie theater, boat dock, observation tower and more. Farmers and Craft Market every Wednesday morning... Well worth a visit!

On the North/East side of the island, Rum Point is another super picturesque part of the island but with a laid back vibe. (reminds me of Florida Keys but better!). If you drive there, take the coast road as much as possible for a scenic journey and you'll pass some interesting homes and mansions and beautiful coastal views as you meander through Bodden Town and Breakers. You can potentially take the coast road all the way to East End then follow the road up and around to the northern coast until you are heading west again. Alternatively, you could take a short cut by turning left where you'll pass John Gray High School, then the Queen Elizabeth Botanic Park (worth a visit if you love plants!) Then the road will bear left so you'll start heading west through small villages with tiny supermarkets and family graveyards and as you head towards Rum Point, you are sure to smile at the original and amusing names on some of the luxurious beach front properties. Rum Point has a beautiful long pier heading out over shallow clear waters and the beach bar/restaurant has been recently renovated and the menu re-vamped, so the food is much better than the typical beach bar fare of chicken fingers, burgers and fries etc. Beach chairs are free, and you can sit in either full sun or shade and order cocktails and snacks, or take a break from the heat to sit in the cool shade of the elegan restaurant and enjoy a decadent island Mudslide cocktail with lunch. The water at Rum Point is shallow and usually clear for a long way out, so its ideal for snorkelling. long pier is very picturesque so you'll get some great photo ops as its lovely from dawn till dusk. Just be prepared with mosquito repellent if you hang around beyond sunset. Also, check the cruise shop schedule and avoid going when there's a lot of cruise ship passengers on island. The little beach gets packed in no time ... at least until 3pm when they head back to the ship! Not far from Rum Point is Kaibo, another water-side restaurant with a varied menu, pretty dock and small beach area. They have an excellent dinner menu too and if you don't feel like the long drive out to this area, they will provide free ferry transfers with confirmed Dinner Reservation from Camana Bay across the North Sound. Just beyond Kaibo is Starfish Point, named (you guessed it!) because of all the Starfish that enjoy the shallow bays and inlets there. Its one of several stops made by the Stingray boat tours, another top attraction on the island.

West Bay is home to several popular tourist attractions, such as Dolphin Discovery, The Turtle Farm, Cayman Islands Motor museum, and several excellent restaurants such as Nova, Cracked Conch & Macabuca and Vivo, all with sunning ocean views. Much of the coastline is "Ironshore", an extremely hard rock that creates the perfect home for Marine life, making it a firm favourite for serious divers as well as snorkellers. Recommend Dive Tech or Blue Water Divers for a great experience.

Conscious company!! Many items on the menu are organic and/or locally sourced and they use solar power and sustainable products. The organic coffee is delicious!! (latte with double shot please!) and my favorite dish is the vegetarian quiche, closely followed by baked eggplant parmesan and avocado mango salad. The garlic naan pizzas are also great and they also serve green juices and smoothies. Its a little out of the way on Elgin Avenue just outside town (opposite the Government Admin building) but well worth a visit for good quality healthy food at a very reasonable price!

They have their own organic farm and their own fishing boat! Almost everything is organic and sustainable and the food is absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed every meal I've ever had there but my all time favorite was the Chefs Tasting menu, each course exquisitely prepared and beautifully presented.... I was in foodie heaven! Afterwards, the chef gave us a personal tour of the garden. Really Fantastic experience - a little pricey but worth every penny and would do it again in a heartbeat. They Brasserie Market Serves great lunch dishes and you can order from the menu or create your own signature salad from the salad bar which has all sorts of amazing healthy stuff - my absolute favorite place to eat in Grand Cayman!

Probably the best supermarket on the island if you are conscious about food and want to eat healthy. Its a little pricey but at least you can find real clean, organic, natural products from all over the world, as well as their own home made things ... e.g. its the only place i know that sells organic bread made in the store. Plenty of selection of organic fruits and vegetables too, and everything else you could imagine ... for a price!

Caribbean style restaurant and outdoor venue where you can choose to dine in the air conditioned restaurant or alfresco in the outside area. The outdoor Cabana Bar and Lounge Bar serves up freshly cooked jerk chicken and pork daily, and on Friday and Saturday nights the bar area is packed with locals enjoying music and drink specials late into the night. Every Thursday Mango Tree hosts Karaoke and Dance Night with DJ Docta!

Next Door promises a fresh cocktail experience in a classic bar environment and as its name suggests, is located directly adjacent to its owners’ restaurant, Agua. Inspired by Cayman’s traditional uses of bush medicine, the team has created a cocktail menu that incorporates local ingredients, prepped fresh inside the kitchen. There's also a bar bites menu created by Agua’s executive chef Simone Quattrini, to complement the bar’s drinks offerings. This is the one thing that everyone should do when they visit Cayman ... at least once! I've experienced this several times and it's always entertaining. Don't be afraid, they are very tame and used to being around people, just listen to your tour guide's advice about how to touch and feed them and please avoid stepping on them. It feels a bit "touristy" yes, but its a lot of fun nonetheless and everyone i have ever recommended it to has enjoyed it (so far!). Check the weather forecast before booking, pack your sunscreen and get ready for plenty of great photo ops!

Parks & Nature

There are some lovely walks around the Botanic Park but perhaps the most interesting (for me) is their initiative to rescue the endangered blue iguanas which are indigenous to Cayman and have become threatened due to the prolific rise in population of green iguanas which were imported here years ago and are now taking over! Blue iguanas are more shy and are consequently the green ones are taking over their natural habitat and forcing them into extinction ...

Quite a surprising thing to find here in Cayman - it features the first car ever brought to the Cayman Islands, a 1905 Cadillac imported from Havana Cuba in 1914. Along with the fantastic Ferraris, Rally Cars, Porsches, and Bentleys there are also motorbikes, power race boats, artwork and motor memorabilia. My favorite though is one of the original electric cars made in the US that were later banned and ordered destroyed due to pressure from the oil companies - fascinating!

Pedro St. James is also, known as Pedro Castle. Go deep into the islands' history and enjoy panoramic views across seven acres of landscaped grounds. Viewing of a 3D movie and a guided tour are included
