Also, this place is super thrifty, but bring cash because they don't take cards and the ATM has high fees.

The grungiest of dive bars; we love it. It was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives a few years back which has un-grungified the clientele. The food is very yum and definitely not just bar fare. Heads up - this is one of the few places left in Atlanta where you can still smoke inside, whether that deters or attracts you.

One of the oldest bars in Atlanta. They recently refurbished it so it lost some of its grit but now you don't have to feel bad about taking your kids in (before 9 pm) for some decent bar food.

This is a great place to catch a more intimate show. They also host a number of private events and have a full bar. It's located on the property of Ponce City Market, so there are tons of shopping and dining options nearby.

Orpheus Brewing has weekly tastings and is tucked in on a quiet sidestreet that overlooks the north end of Piedmont Park. You can easily walk here from the house. During spring/summer/fall, they often have live music.

Our neighborhood's own whiskey distillery! They do tastings and events. It's in the Armour Yards area which is close, but I would not suggest walking due to the traffic through that area getting to/from the interstate.

The Tabernacle is one of those perfect venues... small enough to feel intimate but large enough to pull in some awesome names. I've only ever been to open ticket events here, but there are seats in the balcony where you can sit comfortably.
