Bondi is the best known but for us Bronte is the best beach. Its smaller and less crowded with a heritage rock pool and bogie hole for a splash. Only swim in the pools or between the flags but its a must do.

If you don't like waves head to Nielsen Park by bus. Take the 386 from the bottom of Paul Street next to the Caltex garage.
Great for a swim (there's a netted area), pic-nic or stroll in the beautiful natural setting.

At Manly walk down The Corso to the ocean side and then follow the path on the south end around to Shelly Beach. The only west facing beach on the east coast of Australia! Great, safe swimming spot with a terrific kiosk.
