History and books

Barter Books is in Alnwick, this used to be Alnwick railway station and still houses much of the original carriages and waiting rooms, I absolutely love this second hand book shop. Free to enter, very quirky and especially nice in the winter, when they have open fires. Great café to sit and relax whilst contemplating the vast array of books, not the cheapest for second hand books, but the most amazing place to go. Dog friendly and parking for up to 42 cars.

NEIGHBOURHOODS

40 MINUTES from Amble. Then you can visit BAMBURGH CASTLE 8 minutes further on. A long history of fishing makes this popular seaside village fascinating and beautiful. Check out great fish n chips, and the swallow fish smokehouse, best as we are concerned, fish has been smoked here since 1843. You will find this around the back of the shops, up a small lane, South Street. The Olde Ship Inn is a gem of a pub, great beer and i think a great beef stottie, charming, warm and comfy with a large open fire, much bigger than you think when you get inside. You will find this on the main street. Plenty of parking in Seahouses
