This is a nice little zoo on top of Mill Mountain, adjacent to the Mill Mountain Star overlook. If you have the time to make a day trip to Roanoke I recommend going up there for the view and a picnic

The fair occurs every year in August, but the fairgrounds hold events all year. The fair is a great week long event, and I recommend checking into what is happening during your stay.
