Pilot Bay is sheltered from the sea breezes and has no waves and a wharf to fish off. Mount beach is a surf beach, with two surf clubs - Mount Surf Life Saving Club at the base of Mauao on Marine Parade, and the other, Omanu Surf Life Saving Club at the end of Surf Road.
