Just the most brilliant building- a beautiful time warp that springs out at you. Worth checking if it’s open to go inside. If not, it’s still mind- blowing

If it’s hot, the open air pool is a gem and Cirencester is not bad either!

Our local. Good beers, nice grub and THE BEST views around. Helpfully, the walk back is all downhill. Slightly disturbing policy of closing at 10, but that just means you need to get there earlier - and you can sleep it off for longer too!

Fantastic fish soup and top quality bistro nosh from this local legend. Great for a bit of star spotting too. Definitely worth it on Friday lunchtime.

A big walk through the valleys to get a superb view of the landscape all around the river Severn from what must’ve been a pretty impregnable fort. Humbling stuff.

The walk along the old canal from Chalford to Sapperton is a favourite with this great pub at the end. The canal walk 3 miles: flat, romantically disused and very very beautiful along the golden valley.

Do yourself a favour and check out the best shopping in the western world….. if there is a better mix of vintage, artisan, inspired, classy, quirky, useful, different, one-off items then the local mums would be queuing up to work there instead! If you find yourself somehow going home with a set of streetlights salvaged from Monmatre, you probably wouldn’t be the first.

Brewery tap open Friday and Saturday. Divine beer and great tables & chairs vibe so you sort of squidge together and get sociable. Especially after the 3rd pint. Fantastic owners and it really is just a stones throw away from us down the hill, through the hole in the fence. Bloody steep walk back, but you’ll be laughing by then, so it won’t matter.

It’s a good stretch of a walk down from us and then up the other side of the valley through the vineyard across beautiful fields and up to Selsey. See Wales, Gloucester & Stroud - all from one place. And on the plus side…. 😉 Let the views of the river Severn, fertile green farms, far off mountains make you properly happy to be alive. Extra special fuzzy feelings when the sunlight reflects off the river in the distance. A further plus is you can walk back through the woods across to Coley Peak and woodchester park for an 8 mile round trip.

Just brilliant. A feast of mad, beautiful gardening whimsy that could only be the result of a well-off family in England flashing their cash and 1700’s individuality. Very special indeed. Great events too.

A bazillion stalls of quirky, old, high class or just fun and low-cost stuff to buy make this a great place to stop of for that one-a-kind present. Great cafe too.

Apparently The Beatles played here, you know…. OK so some events are really very rocky indeed- but that probably depends on your point of view: there really is something for everyone here (often with an earthy Stroudie overtone). Big names, small acts or take pot luck on a Saturday evening. 😊

Consistently reckoned to be one of the best farmers markets in the UK with good reason. Also superb for seeing a perfect cross section of Stroudies: whippets, black labs, cockerpoos, spaniels and faithful mutts with neckerchiefs - You catch the drift…. Great street food, quality produce. Buskers usually good too. Every Saturday morning.

Yes really. Loads of great food stalls make this a great street food lunch stop any day of the week. Plus high quality provender from more shoppy-shops around the edge. Fishmonger always looks beautiful (the fish, not the person).

Pubs & Grub

If you’ve ever wondered how you might convert a knackered old ex petrol station into a phenomenally poncey farm shop with ludicrously expensive food (complete with farmers mud still on it) and a massive whiff of boho chic, then look no further. In all seriousness, Jolly Nice is deservedly a favourite local coffee stop and food destination for cyclists and drivers for many miles around. Produce is great - yes prices are steep - but there are many wonderful things to be seen and it is a great place to feast your eyes as well as your tum.

Another great one. Newly back on the scene with a faithful clientele, good food and distinct bar vs eating areas. It all works beautifully. Booking recommended. Historic position on the old Brimscomb Port, so you can get your imagination going as you walk on down to Stroud Brewery….

Consistently the busiest pub around, so always a vibe, even if it is mostly set up for food. Exactly 1 mile away, so very walkable.
