It's no Alhambra, but it's still worth a visit to this Moorish fortress. You can access from next to the Roman Theatre or there is a sneaky lift on Calle Guillen Soleto (Ascensor de Alcazaba) which cuts out some of the uphill.

A fairly steep uphill climb to the top, but the views are fantastic. You don't have to go into the castle to enjoy the area, there are some nice walking trails around here and a Parador with cold beer waiting at the top too.

Great for a wander and has some great little bars for a drink/food stop. El Carmen market (across the dry river bed) is smaller and less touristy if you're looking some something even more authentic.

A 10-15 min cab ride away, but a really beautiful place to have a proper walk surrounded by pine forest. If you type "Enduro Montes de Malaga" into Google maps this is a good place to start and you'll easily pick up trails from here

Fabulous views over the Alcazaba - there is a bar on the 5th floor, but if you want something quieter got for a table on the 4th floor terrace (part of the restaurant). When it's quiet they don't mind you just having a drink, but when busier just ordering a few tapas plates gets you one of the best seats in the house.
