Perhaps less visited than Mount Rainier, the park around Mount St Helens is still beautiful, and the sight of the cratered mountain is haunting. There are plenty of hikes here as well, and the nearby museum can teach you the history of the eruption.

It's also a great spot to catch some sun when Seattle is cloudy -- the clouds often stay behind on the west side of the mountains, and you can get your sun fix here.
This island is a popular destination with locals and is just a short ferry ride from downtown. You can peruse the cute shops and restaurants on the main street or visit the Bloedel Nature Preserve.
