Cedar Grove is an Orange County Community northwest of Hillsborough. A post office has been established here since 1828. There are a quite a few old abandoned country stores at the intersection of Efland-Cedar Grove Road and Carr Store Road. Interestingly enough, the only still occupied and operating building at this crossroads is the Cedar Grove Post Office.

Constructed in 1815 after the war of 1812 (when the original White House was burned in 1814), this austere exterior plantation (on the National Register of Historic Places) was named by the owner, William Kirkland for his Scottish birthplace of Ayr. The interior is plush early 1800's and the scenic grounds include a 1 mile meandering 'Poets Walk trail.
