This place has the best cochinita pibil I have ever tasted! This restaurant is about 2 hrs away driving from Playa del Carmen. The most traditional dish from Merida is the delicious Cochinita Pibil! The pork is marinated in citrus juices and seasoned with achiote paste from the annatto seed and wrapped in a banana leaf. The dish is traditionally slow cooked in a fire pit in the ground, hence its name, which means little, buried pig.

The distance from Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza is 180 kilometers (111 miles) and the drive takes around 2 hours. Chichén Itzá is a complex of Mayan ruins in Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. A massive pyramid, known as El Castillo or Temple of Kukulcan, dominates the ancient city, which thrived from around 600 A.D. to the 1200s. Graphic stone carvings survive at structures like the ball court, Temple of the Warriors and the Wall of the Skulls.

Located at only 20 km drive from Playa del Carmen (direction Tulum) and 40 km from Tulum, Paamul is a unique beach and residential area that has been first discovered and populated mainly by expats with their motorhomes.
From the Carretera Federal just before the beach, you will find homes of all sizes and styles and some of them include a motor home parked on the side.
I can say Paamul is one of the most underrated beaches in Mexico but don’t tell many people because I love it as hidden and quiet as it is.

Parking is extremely limited in this beach area. We recommend taking advantage of the great restaurants on this stretch of beach for lunch or dinner to experience the tranquility of Xcalacoco. Coco’s Restaurant is an old time favorite that we recommend.

Wade out into the turquoise waters of the Caribbean and be swept away by the freedom of the sea. Beachside restaurants offer fresh fish tacos and ice cold beer making Xpu Ha beach an easy place to put your beach chair for the day.
