Whittier is the gateway to the Prince William Sound. You can take a Glacier Cruise tour, ski jet tours, fishing charters, hiking, berry picking, camping, kayaking and good food at the Whittier Inn Hotel. To get to Whittier you can drive and is about a hour drive from Anchorage to Portage Glacier where you then drive through one of only two tunnels in the world that trains also go through(not at same time) tunnel is about 2.5 miles long. I recommend the drive as it is unique to go through the tunnel and even if you are not taking a glacier tour or hiking etc. then stop and have lunch and enjoy the view (weather permitting).
