This is walking distance from the house and has indoor and outdoor pools with swimming lanes. It also has a small water playground for littlies and inflatable obstacle courses for bigger kids. Most importantly, there is a café attached where you can recover and admire the view over a cappuccino.

Drinks & Nightlife

This is a local icon. It's a comfortable place to hang out for both locals and visitors. It's open 7 days with live music from Wednesday to Saturday each week and a folkish session on Sunday. Ask Oliver to pour you a Guinness and you'll get a shamrock on the top. My tip though is to never order food here - drink beer instead.

Red Brick Road make their own cider and it's delicious. You can sample their ciders before you choose and Mary or another friendly bartender will tell you all about them. This is a great place to go if you just want to sit and have a drink with a good book to read. If you're a single traveller, this is the best place to go in Launceston.

If beer is your thing, then this is your destination. A bar which has up to 12 beers on tap, plus wines and spirits. They have a good bar snack menu too. We recommend the cheese balls. The best thing is that they're open every day until late.

There's a hands-on science room which is fun for all ages and a planetarium. General entry is free which we like! They also have some excellent touring exhibits.

Why not splash out on some local art? Or you could just play our game of choosing what we would buy if we won Tattslotto. Margot is very welcoming whether or not you want to purchase something or not.

Well worth a visit. If you're feeling like a good walk, start in town and head for the old Kings Bridge at the mouth of the South Esk river. Walk the tracks along the river, over the suspension bridge and on to the historic Duck Reach power station. Maybe 2 hours return? Best bit - coffee and cake at the Cataract Gorge cafe half way along the track.
