Teatro Pergolesi

Unique Opera House built in 1790. In 1883 the theatre was renamed Teatro Giovanni Battista Pergolesi in honour of the great composer who was born in Jesi. The theatre is still in use today, "one of the few opera houses in Italy from the late 1700s that has never been destroyed by fire or bombs" It was completely renovated in 1995 and is currently managed by the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation.

The library is housed in this lovely palazzo, once a government building, but now home to many unusual books and 2 huge old world globes. For those interested in rare books, this is a special treat. See the library on the second floor which has documents up to 700 years old. Notable is the interior courtyard, with two orders of loggias.
