This is primarily a seafood store, quite small, but they also sell Lobster roll (sandwiches) and you can call ahead and have them cook your Lobster so you don't have to be cruel yourself. Takes about 20min. (207) 947-7488.

Decent Sushi, not expensive. One of the three or so ok Asian restaurants in the area. Although it is not a pretty location from the outside, it's quite nice inside.

Nice views of Bangor. Just like the best views of Manhattan are found in Brooklyn (or maybe Jersey), we have to go to Brewer for that :).

Very nice little Cafe with surprisingly good Cappuccino. You can also go next door and enjoy your coffee and scones etc. in the quaint lobby of the Charles Inn, a cute little hotel. Our favorite spot in Bangor to sit down and read when we have time...

Orono Bog Walk - Very interesting boardwalk (stroller friendly) that leads through lush boreal swamp into a unreal landscape full of dwarf tree islands in the Orono bog. Bring bug spray.

You can hike here from Bar Harbor at low tide. Crowded of course but still fun, especially with kids, since it's a short and easy walk. Just remember to turn around on time...

OK it's a very small park but it's very close - less than 15min by car. You can swim, paddle and sail here. And the lake is almost 8 miles long. While it never gets crowded anywhere in Bangor, this is a place that some people find too plebeian. I still enjoy it.

Beautiful lake - you are not allowed to swim in it (drinking water) but you can canoe on it! Great way to get away from the crowds in Acadia. Then you can have Popovers at the Jordan Pond Guesthouse - despite it's touristy location, actually not bad. You can also hike around the lake.

Jordan Pond
Beautiful lake - you are not allowed to swim in it (drinking water) but you can canoe on it! Great way to get away from the crowds in Acadia. Then you can have Popovers at the Jordan Pond Guesthouse - despite it's touristy location, actually not bad. You can also hike around the lake.
