It's the Americans who built up this area in the mid-1800s. They came to New Orleans knowing how to make money...and spend it. Beautiful mansions and picturesque above-ground cemetery (closes at 3pm). We take the ferry over and then catch the street car from Canal St at Carondelet St. If you have a car, it's only a 20-minute drive and has plenty of free parking in the interior of the neighborhood. Dine or shop on Magazine Street after!
