There are several easily-accessible beaches near Gabarus, each with their own character, and usually empty. The water is on the cold side, but gets nice for swimming mid-summer and stays swimmable into the fall.

The Gabarus Protected Wilderness Area is *not* accessible from Harald Born Drive, it is accessible from Gull Cove Road in Gabarus or Belfry Beach Road. The Gull Cove Trail is being redeveloped, and allows access to some great views, beaches, subarctic barrens, and a nice hike. Access from the Belfry end requires wading through a tidal watercourse.
