Food Scene

Classic Italian-American restaurant that has been a staple of the Bay Area for Years! Have a drink or stay for dinner, my go to is the Shrimp Cocktail and Lasagna. I recommend grabbing a table in the more casual bar lounge.

One of my favorite new-ish restaurants. Liho Liho has food like no where else! A creative mix of Hawaiian and Californian cuisine and fresh drinks. Be sure to order the spam & rice (it's a secret menu item). Reservations are a needed unless you arrive at opening to put your name in early/snag a bar seat. The wait can sometimes be 2 hours! Also check out their new underground lounge with a totally different menu (also by reservation only).

Yuet Lee is an iconic restaurant in Chinatown! My parents have been coming here since the 80's and it hasn't changed a bit. A hole in the wall with not your typical Chinese food. I suggest the Shanghai Chow Mein, Salt & Pepper Prawns or Calamari, Sweet & Sour Pork short ribs, cod with vegetables and steamed bok choy! Open til the early morning this place is also great after hitting the town at night!

Yank Sing is perfect for a classic Dim Sum meal. Located in the beautiful Rincon Building! Carts of fresh Dim Sum are pushed past your table so you can pick exactly what you what. My favorites are the steamed pork buns, miso cod, shu mai, hong kong egg tart and mango pudding!

This bakery/cafe is a MUST try for breakfast/lunch/brunch. Order at the counter and then try to snag a table or take your food to go. You can smell the freshly baked pastries while in line! My favorites are the passionfruit bostock and ham & béchamel open faced sandwich.

Prepare to wait in line! Mr. Holmes is known for the "Cruffin" a muffin shaped croissant filled with custard (daily flavor changes). Make sure to arrive between 8:30-8:45 (even earlier on weekends) on a weekday to grab one of these (limited to 2 per person). I always fill up a box of their goods to bring to bring home to snack on for the week.

One of my favorite restaurants in SF! Make sure to come with an empty stomach and a reservation. You might get lucky with a small group 1-3 to get a walk in table. Open for lunch and dinner Zero Zero serves up a new take on Southern Italian Comfort food with a Californian twist. My favorites- Arrancini, meatballs and corn/guanciale pizza. Save room for dessert! Their molten brownie and strauss soft serve is to die for!

Everything Else

Take a scenic walk along the Embarcadero to the Ferry building. With Farmers Markets on the weekends and locally made food vendors inside there's something for everyone here! The Slanted Door is great for upscale asian fusion. Gott's roadside is perfect for families- awesome burgers, fries, shakes especially on a sunny day on their patio! Slurp some local oysters at Hog Island! Or grab some local Acme bread and Cowgirl Creamery cheese to eat outside (my favorite is the Mt. Tam triple cream).
