If you want to know why they say that 'wherever you are in the world if you look down a hole you will find a Cornishman in the bottom', this is the place to go. The diaspora gardens lead you to every continent where Cornish miners have taken their skills and left their mark. The museum and iconic engine house will tell you more. The RedRiver cafe serves excellent snacks.

Parks & Nature

A tree clad place to stroll when the temperature soars and the sand is too hot to walk on. Snowdrops in late winter, bluebells in early summer, swans on the lake and a cafe in the middle.

It is a family friendly life-guarded beach with its own little tidal swimming pool in the rocks. Car park and amenities are all nearby, the views are great and the sunsets sublime. Swimming before 9am you will probably have it all to yourself as the life guards do not arrive until 10am.

Shopping

It's an old granite town, charming, cobbled, packed with little boutiques , cafes and restaurants. It has an excellent museum, the wonderful panier market and a street market on thursdays. there is the Hall for Cornwall for first class performances (theatre, ballet, opera, light entertainment, music) and the cathedral. It is accessible by bus from Portreath if you have all day but better to drive to the Truro 'park and ride' and go in that way as parking is very difficult in the town centre area.

Sightseeing

It's a lovely old port with cobbled main street, art galleries, cafes, restauarants. There is the National Maritime Museum, Pendennis Castl, Falmouth Art gallery and some lovely beaches and if the tide is right you can park and float into town. You can cross Carrick Roads by boat to explore St Mawes, or take the ferry to Truro or Trellisick Gardens. There are nearly always interesting boats docked or laid up in St Harry reach. A great day out.
