This is the most delectable deli in county Kilkenny. It is full of Irish food delights, delicious freshly made sandwiches to takeaway and the perfect cappuccino, all overlooking St. Mary's Medieval Abbey in Gowran. Stock up on some amazing Irish food to bring home or to have as nibbles and picnics on your tour of Ireland.

Delicious food and coffee all day long. This is one of the best spots for food when you are on your way to or from Dublin. Also you can take a walk in the Abbey ruins at Castledermot and walk through the lime avenue to see the Celtic tower and high cross in the church grounds.

Delicious food and great service all-day, everyday. This is the closest place to us that serves the best food to suit all appetites. There is a bar and a restaurant, the food in both is excellent. We recommend booking a table for groups if it is a weekend, but you can eat at the bar with our a reservation. Just let us know if you want us to call them for you to book in advance.

Essentials

Bagenalstown is our closest town with all the essentials. we do most of our grocery shopping here. There are two supermarkets (SuperValu and Aldi), a good few pharmacies (that's drug stores!), a post office (hidden in the petrol station shop!) some interesting shops, takeaways and pubs. It is a very typical rural Irish town with almost everything you need.

Sightseeing

This is such a special place. Moone High Cross is an ancient Celtic High Cross that has the most beautiful imagery carved into it. Definitely worth the detour to see this magical place. (and you get to say you've been to the moon!) Also it is free!

St Lazarian's Cathedral is just a few miles from us and is such a spectacular early romanesque cathedral in the middle of the tiny village of Old Leighlin. If you can get inside all the better, but even just a trip around the outside to see the architecture is worth a visit. It is a completely hidden gem with bucket loads of history and charm.

Parks & Nature

On a clear day the views from Mount Leinster are sublime. You can see all across the counties of Carlow and Wexford. Even you can't walk it all even the drive to the carpark is worth it for the view. The walk from there to the top takes about 2 hours, but if you don't have time you can do a quicker walk up the smaller hill in front of the car park. The drive there is one of the most scenic routes in Ireland.

Entertainment & Activities

Go to the rowing club (at the end of the quay) and walk along the river until the bend and you reach a small (tiny) beach. If you like wild swimming then you will LOVE this swimming spot. It is so refreshing and really a great place to swim under the lush green trees in the River Barrow. Be careful of strong currents and boats. Swim with caution.
