Arts & Culture

Alexandrians love GW! They have special events throughout the year (like dinners with wine pairings, fall festivals, etc.), allow dogs on the grounds, and the restaurant is excellent!

Drinks & Nightlife

Excellent southern food in the restaurant, incredibly good deals at happy hour. Not quite a dive bar, but relaxed and easy.

Sightseeing

Old Town is our go-to destination for fun. Just walking up the cobblestone streets and people-watching could fill a day. They have a giant farmer's market in Market Square (G. Washington trained troops here!) on Saturday mornings year-round. When it's warm, there is free yoga and other events at the market. There are restaurants and bars of every kind, and lots of little interesting shops mixed with chain clothing stores. The pier is beautiful and a great place to take kids to look at the boats. You can even take a boat tour or grab a water taxi to Nationals Park, Georgetown, or National Harbor!

National Harbor is a 10-minute drive away. Newly developed, it features a mix of finer retail stores and restaurants. We go for the waterfront with Ferris wheel, statues, and free movies in the summer! It's worth walking through the giant Gaylord Hotel, too - which has a wonderful Christmastime display.

Food Scene

Lovely, homey shop - you could hang out here for hours. Live music on Sunday mornings! And I love their seasonal drinks.
