Fantastic cross country skiing at this Olympic and World Cup facility located right here in Canmore. Public transport will take you right to the door, or there is plenty of parking out front.

The Canmore Nordic center is an amazing facility - great for mountain biking on easy to difficult trails and famous for cross-country skiing. Home of the 1988 Olympics, it has an extensive and well-maintained trail system and great facilities.

Over 200 km of trails for mountain biking, nordic skiing, running, fat-biking, snowshoeing, and some hiking. Nice day-lodge for those who are not joining in on the activities.

“Barrier Lake is beautiful man-made lake in Kananaskis Country, created by a hydro-electric dam on the North side of the lake. The lake can be found on Highway 40 (Kananaskis Trail) just south of the Trans Canada Highway. There are parks, day-use areas, hiking trails, and a boat launch along Highway 40. During the summer you can rent canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards from Kananaskis Outfitters Thursday-Sunday. ”

“An unbelievable scenic hike! Travel the canyon on trails and narrow bridges with railings that lead to the Lower Falls and to the spectacular 30 metre-high Upper Falls. For a unique perspective, continue 265 m further to the viewpoint at the top of the upper falls. Beyond the falls, a trail continues up and over a forested ridge to a meadow where water bubbles from deep below the Earth’s surface into shallow pools called the Ink Pots.”
