Between Betws y Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog. A true Welsh castle. It’s not possible to go inside but the walk to the castle and round the ruins is pleasant and not too difficult. Park in the lay-by off the main road , on the right if you are coming from Betws y Coed. Walk slightly up the road (away from Betws) and go through the farm gate on the right. This is the footpath to the castle.

Alternative small Welsh castle from the large English Conwy and Caernarfon castles and is just a 15 walk from the cottage doorstep.
One of only 6 Welsh built castle that remain. This castle was built by the might Llywelyn Fawr ('The Great)') betyween 12010 and 1240. He was born on the forested hill mound looking towards the valley from Tanycastell. Well worth a visit, on the door step. From the roof it has great 360 degree views on clear days. Small entrance fee applicable.
