Granada - in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Granada is well known for grand examples of medieval architecture dating to the Moorish occupation, especially the Alhambra. The majestic fortress and it's stunning gardens stand proud above the city, a testament to the rich history of the area. But, there is just so much more to do in Granada, and it's all best done out of the heat of summer sun. Book ahead for access to the Alhambra, due to popularity; walking tours around the neighbourhoods of Sacromonte and Albaycin by day or by night; the Basilico De San Juan De Dios; Arabian Baths experience at the Hammam al Andalus; Flamenco night, nestled in the old town, up the winding, flower-lined stairways. Granada is somewhere to stay for a night. Cars are tricky so find a hotel with a car park.

Granada City is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, A must-see is the majestic Alhambra (pre-booking essential), an astonishing palace complex of Islamic decor and landscaped gardens, then visit the winding streets in the Albayzín, the historic Arab quarter, before a drink in one of the many tapas bars.
