There are a lot of lovely places to walk - on the downs or on the seafront, as well as good cafes and restaurants. The Beacon shopping centre in the town centre has recently been refurbished and incorporates a cinema. Little Chelsea, Meads village and Old Town both have their own special characteristics and Gildredge Park is great for tennis, football, picnics or general running around, with a playpark for small kids. There are some great traditional pubs dotted throughout the town - The Lamb, The Pilot and The Stage Door all worth a visit. The Congress Theatre and Towner Art Gallery have full and varied programmes throughout the year and of course Devonshire Park is famous for the LTA pre Wimbledon tournament.

Eastbourne is a lovely seaside town, with a large beach and pier. It is similar to Brighton in style but much smaller and quieter, and a little less touristy. Beachy Head, Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters are all within easy reach of the town and offer great coastal walks. The town itself offers a good mix of shops, galleries, restaurants and theatres. In terms of food we would recommend Skylark a British café offering breakfast through to dinner with a good range of coffee, wines and cocktails in a pretty and trendy setting. There is also a lovely French restaurant on King Edwards parade called Bistro Pierre with a lovely view of the sea.

Extensive shopping in the recently renovated 'Arndale Centre' shopping arcade. Close to the seafront for a seaside stroll.

Eastbourne is a 30 minute drive to the East of Rottingdean. It is smaller than Brighton & Hove, but it has a pier and lively seafront to explore with pretty gardens and children's entertainment.
