The High Line

What was once part of the New York Central Railroad is now an elevated park landscaped with grasses and flowers that threads neatly between the high rises of Hell’s Kitchen and Chelsea. Best of all, kids can act like kids here, because you don’t have to worry about traffic, and everything is designed to be climbed on!
Have your kids try to spot signs in the windows of surrounding apartment buildings that say things like “Hi, Highline!” Bonus points to whoever first finds the cool metal birdhouse sculpture.

The High Line is a 1.45-mile-long elevated linear park, greenway and rail trail created on a former New York Central Railroad spur on the west side of Manhattan. The High Line’s design is a collaboration between James Corner Field Operations, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and Piet Oudolf.

One of the newest parks in NYC, and one of the most interesting. It's built on top of an old railway on the west side of Manhattan, and spans over 1.5 miles. You'll see great views of the city, many awesome vendors, and lots of excited people walking around.
