I'm putting this in the food scene category because their fried chicken is the absolute bomb. That said it's a really cool local bar with a chill vibe. Great place to spend an evening.

Gastro Pub fair. Burgers and sandwiches done well, and it's an easy walk from our place. Worth having a beer and an appetizer while you're making plans for the evening.

Arguable the best Mexican food in Portland. Everything on the menu is solid. My wife raves about the ceviche, but everything on the menu is really, really good. Watch out for the lines though.

Kinda spendy, but they make a hell of a brunch here. Another one of those places where you could end up waiting in line if you get there late. This is the place you take your mom to on her birthday.

North Portland breakfast stalwart. The hash browns are always perfect and the food you get makes the long line worth it. Watch out though, the portion sizes are absurd. You're ready for the professional eating circuit if you can finish one of their scrambles.

Another solid breakfast place that revolves around biscuit based sandwiches. My favorite is the Reggie Deluxe (Fried Chicken, bacon, egg, cheese, and gravy). That, along with one of their awesome Bloody Mary's, is a tried and true hang over remedy.

We're trying to keep most of the food recommendations to North Portland, but this is one of our favorites. They make poached chicken and rice here... that's it. And it is damn good. I promise you won't be disappointed. There's also a food cart version (the original) downtown.

Jess and I traveled through China for three months a few years ago. We started almost every morning with one a savory 'Guan Bing' crepe. If you've ever been you'll know there's a cart selling them on almost every corner. This downtown food cart makes a pretty darn good version. (Pass on the sausage and the plum sauce, neither are necessary)

If you're looking for a unique, fancy evening. Check out Ned Ludd. They run a rotating menu based on what's fresh and in season, all cooked in a wood fired oven. Great cocktails too.

This place cooks really good, really authentic Thai food. (Unfortunately, the prices aren't authentic). Their fish sauce wings consistently get rated one of the best dishes in Portland.

Probably the best buffalo wings in Portland. Wings, tator tots, and a beer... what else do you need? (Hopefully not a salad, because their salads aren't very good... Unless you count celery as a salad... which some people might)

Very good, unpretentious Italian food (probably worth getting a reservation). We've never had a bad dish. Breakside Brewery and Bushwackers Cider are both right across the street, so that's your afternoon and evening both planned).

Great pizza by the slice, in the Dekum triangle. Start there and move on to Breakside brewery, and Bushwackers cider. which are both a block away.

This diner is straight out of a David Lynch movie. Long-staring stragglers quietly sip their refillable coffee in shiny naugahyde booths while Denver omelets sizzle next to pancakes on the grill. It's open at 7AM which is nice if you arrive (or leave) on an early flight. Not the best breakfast in Portland, but a solid blue collar offering. (Check out the attached bar... with the exact vibe you'd expect if you're on a roll)

OK, the pizza here is only average, but this is certainly the best sports bar in North Portland. Great place to watch football. Lots of huge TVs and belligerent fans keep the place loud (in a good way)

One of our favorite live music venues in Portland, and also a fantastic beer garden. The burgers and fries are solid, and they show silent/cheesy black and white horror films in the evening in their massive outdoor area. There's a fire pit if you get cold.

Nice local bar that's only a couple blocks away. Go in the side door (the front is a mexican restaurant). They've got Pacifico on tap which goes pretty well with their solid tequila selection. (The food is only so-so)

The pizza is pretty good here, but I've got it on this list because they run the best pub quiz in Portland. It starts at 7PM on Wednesday, but get there early if you want any chance at a table.
