Goûtez et cuisinez du biltong traditionnel avec originalité
Welcome to our lounge or 'voorkamer' where we'll meet and give you a foretaste of South African hospitality with a delicious platter of dried fruit and a taste of biltong - which is different to American jerky. In this biltong-making workshop we'll teach you the basics of making your own biltong sticks - how to select your meat, cut, marinade, season, cure, and store it. During this hands-on demonstration, you will be shown how to select and use traditional South African spices while we tell you about the history of the Great Trek, how those intrepid pioneers lived off the land, and how they cured their meat. I will also tell you how an English 'Soutie' like me married an Afrikaans 'Boeremeisie' and how we have had to combine our very different and distinct cultures carefully. We create a fun, relaxed atmosphere with Boeremusiek (folk music) and some catchy Afrikaans songs to showcase authentic warmhearted South African hospitality. Learn about the origin of the Afrikaans language (the only European language born in Africa!) We'll teach you a few expressions over a strong 'moerkoffie' served in a tin mug along with a piece of Soutie's own homemade Karringmelkbeskuit. Be prepared to hear some tall tales and a few classic Afrikaans sayings to spice up your conversations during this cultural experience. Guests get a sample of biltong sticks to eat or take home.

Exploration du Cap de Bonne-Espérance
The Cape of Good Hope evokes immense drama as massive waves carve away at the base of 700 foot high cliffs. It’s a corner of the globe steeped in cultural and maritime history, but even more so it is famous for its raw natural beauty: both terrestrial as well as marine. Our journey will start with me meeting you bright & early at your city centre Airbnb after which we'll stop in at one of my favorite bakeries in Kalk Bay for a coffee & pastry before passing through Simon's Town to encounter our precious, endangered, African Penguins. By mid-morning we’ll arrive at the Cape of Good Hope section of the Table Mountain National Park where our trail shoes can be of use! We’ll hike a mix of rugged mountain trail and stretches of white sand beach. During our hike I will share my knowledge of our botanically rich and diverse Fynbos biome, looking out for wildlife, insects, birds and reptiles along the way too. We will do a 2.5-3 hour circular hike of an easy to moderate difficulty covering 6 km / 4 miles as well as an exploration of the Cape Point and Dias Beach area on a linear or out-and-back trail of an easy to moderate nature. We return to the city via Chapman's Peak Drive in the late afternoon. Join me for a memorable day exploring the Cape of Good Hope uniquely on foot. Note: Please get in touch if you are 4 or more people booking a private trip to confirm availability.

Découvrez la vie du canton avec un habitant
I'll be your guide on our interactive walk exploring the authentic diversity of township life. At first glance, life may seem a daily struggle but delve deeper and we’ll find a place of friendship and resilience. Our itinerary begins at MADaboutART, a non-profit organisation using art and creative expression to support children to make positive life choices. You'll see our gallery of narrative artwork telling inspirational stories of the lives of children in the township. We'll see many sights along the way; traditional wooden homes and Government-built brick homes, cattle and pigs grazing, daily laundry, every day is different. We’ll visit the corner shop to find out which foods are family favourites. Finally, we return to MADaboutART to meet the children as they sing, paint, bead, whatever the activity of the day is (curriculum dependent). On Sunday mornings we can join a local church congregation for part of their service. We hope you'll take a little township magic home with you (and leave a little piece of your heart with us) Other things to note: Unique gift items for sale made by children at MADaboutART (R50-R250), bead bracelets, cards & art.
