Popular breakfast spot, short walk walk from the bungalow. Expect a short wait, but the food is good (great bacon) and the portions are big enough to take some home for later. Gluten free options available.

If you're not from California, this staple is a must while you're in the Golden State. It's a nice walk from the bungalow if you cut through Laguna Grande Park and take the trail. It goes around the lagoon and right to In N Out.

Go early and expect a wait. Nice thing is that you can take a walk on the rec trail while you wait the 45 mins for your table. Cool, local business with good food and a nice view of the docks.

Even though it's on Cannery Row, it doesn't seem really touristy. It's just a nice, cool place you want to get a good meal and a cocktail. And probably the best windows on the Row to take in the view of the Bay.

Drinks & Nightlife

Great local brewery and a burgeoning favorite of Bay Area beer nerds. I'm not a connoisseur, and even I recognize that this is really good beer. They also have fantastic food.

If you want to catch a live band on a night out this is your best bet. Plus it's right on the Row, so it's easy to hit up after dinner at one of the many restaurants close by.

Check out the schedule of events happening at the Golden State Theater while you're in town. Great bands and comedians come through from time to time. It's a classic old style theater with a balcony and just a beautiful building inside and out. And it's on Alvarado Street, the hub of nightlife in Monterey, so it's easy to grab dinner before the show and drinks after:)

Biggest attraction on the Peninsula, and arguably best aquarium in the US. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is famous all over the world for its efforts in marine life education and conservation.

Parks & Nature

Natural and Marine Reserve. Great place for easy hiking trails. If you're into SCUBA diving, this place is a gem, but you'll have to make a reservation in advance to dive during peak times, because they limit numbers for conservation purposes.

Even if you don't want to "go to the beach", make the drive from the aquarium down Ocean View Blvd around the tip of the Peninsula to Asilomar, especially for the sunset. You won't regret it.

World-renowned wilderness area. Simply epic, whether for a drive, a hike, or camping. Lots of tourist traffic can congest Hwy 1 during peak times. Also, cell phone service is spotty at best, so map out your trip and check traffic before you go.

This is a fantastic coastal trail that runs from Marina to Pebble Beach. Great for bike rides, your morning run, and even just walking between the sights, since many are right along the the trail.

Beautiful beach, with probably the best surf in the area, if that's what you're looking for. Bonfires are ok south of 10th St, but the city keeps tinkering with the rules about fires, so check their website before buying firewood.

Sightseeing

This is a popular favorite, but it can take forever, because it gets packed with tourists and tour buses stopping every 1/4 mile for pictures. If you want my advice, skip it and just drive Ocean View Blvd through to Asilomar Beach instead. It will take a fraction of the time, save you the $10 entrance to Pebble Beach, and in my opinion, the views are as good, if not better. But, if you want to say you went to Pebble Beach and you need that selfie with the Lone Cypress... hey, I get it:)

A top tourist attraction, at a minimum it warrants a leisurely stroll down and back, preferably on a brisk evening when you will most appreciate the many free samples of Clam Chowder you'll be offered. All the restaurants claim to have the best, so you be the judge!
