Enjoy the local scene at the Goodlands market; Come on Tuesdays and Fridays because of the fabric and fashion (ready to wear, printed cotton, saris) fairs, and on Wednesdays and Saturdays during the fruit and vegetable markets.
Heading north east of Grand Bay found the small village of Goodlands, where lots of traditional Indian clothing along with local clothing for all ages are available. There are many shops found along Goodlands’ main street thus many local and hand made products can be found in close proximity.

“Heritage Le Chateau is the quintessential plantation house – a luxurious home whose name alone evokes vivid scenes from another time... Refurbished in 2017, the 19th century mansion is set in opulent French gardens dotted with fountains and offers breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains and of the Bel Ombre golf course.”

“To taste real home cooking, stop at this simple family-run table d’hote, with orange splatter paint walls and photographs of visits from famous reggae singers. Front of house is the charming Rico I’Intelligent, the village mayor, known locally as the President. His wife cooks up old family recipes in the kitchen, while his sister in law waits the tables. The set menu includes chicken, fish (occasionally wild boar), with five vegetables and rice, and desert. The value is unbeatable, because he doesn’t pay commission to taxi drivers (usually added to your bill).”
